Brisbane-based developer Pikos Group is set to embark on one of Brisbane’s most striking residential apartment projects – a $200 million luxury apartment project on a prime Kangaroo Point site that will feature a floating 1,000sqm Sky Deck and an iconic new restaurant for the city.

Pikos Group, headed by long-time Brisbane developer Pedro Pikos, has received development approval from Brisbane City Council for a revised residential apartment project to be known as Skye Apartments. The project will be launched soon on a spectacular site overlooking the CBD which had originally been intended for a luxury Banyan Tree residential community.

With a design inspired by the famous Marina Bay Sands development in Singapore, Pikos will deliver a boutique collection of 68 luxury apartments over three towers, topped by a spectacular rooftop bar and restaurant to accompany an expansive private residents’ pool deck overlooking the city skyline. The 2330sqm landmark site located atop the Kangaroo Point cliffs on the corner of River Terrace and Main Street, was acquired by Pikos Group from international hotels group Banyan Tree.

The Singapore-based company, which paid $16.8 million for the site in 2014, had planned a major apartment project on the high-profile property. Pikos has amended Banyan Tree’s original single-tower design with plans for three boutique towers of up to 13 storeys on the site.

Designed by Brisbane architectural firm Arkhefield, the project will deliver spacious apartments that span the entire east-west width of each tower, providing uninterrupted views of the Botanic Gardens, the Brisbane River, Storey Bridge and the city, as well as views across to the eastern arm of the Brisbane River to New Farm and beyond. Each building will have just two apartments per floor with generous balconies along the River Terrace frontage to take advantage of the views.

Pikos Group’s unique approach to the landmark 8 River Terrace site includes plans for a floating Sky Deck spanning two of the buildings which will feature a world-class restaurant and bar facility that will be open to the general public. Visitors will access the roof terrace through a standalone glass lift on River Terrace, offering patrons breathtaking city vistas on the journey to the top floor.

The Sky Deck will also deliver the ultimate experience for residents with exclusive access to a private pool and terrace, plus a separate covered recreation terrace. The apartment offering will include six penthouses, each with their own private rooftop terraces. Pikos says the project is aimed at the booming owner-occupier market seeking inner-city living by offering spacious apartments with luxurious interiors and superior finishes. Ground floor amenities will include a fully equipped gym and a private, secure sub-tropical garden, while a separate café will service both residents and the general public.

“This is a landmark site in Brisbane, so we took a purposeful approach to create an iconic development,” said Pikos managing director Pedro Pikos. “The Sky Lounge is the jewel in the crown of this design that will set this development apart for residents and as a Brisbane destination in its own right. We have delivered refinements that we believe creates a unique residential offering for the city by combining boutique premium apartment lifestyle with world-class amenities that you’d expect in a five-star resort. Not only will each apartment provide residents superb views of the city, the design is crafted to suit today’s modern lifestyle. Everything is at your fingertips if you choose, or you can remain at home to enjoy the benefits of supreme privacy, a beautiful outlook and unparalleled amenities.”

Access to the city and all it has to offer will be enhanced by a new pedestrian bridge proposed to link Kangaroo Point and the Botanic Gardens. The Pikos development will provide four levels of basement car parking, with access for residents, guests and the public via Main Street. River Terrace will have a port-cochere drop-off point for the public and residents to use.

Pikos has lodged a development application with the Brisbane City Council for the 8 River Terrace project and the company plans to begin construction in 2021 once approvals are granted.
